How we rank GEO agencies
One measure, two tie-breaks, one rule. Anyone can redo the order from the table on each page.
The ruleRanked by AI-readiness: six public checks of each agency's own website, 100 points, highest first. A tie goes to more Clutch reviews (no Clutch profile counts as 0), then to the earlier founding year; agencies still tied share a rank.
Who gets listed
- A real business with a working website.
- A page on its own site that sells GEO, AEO or AI search optimization by name. A blog post alone does not count.
- City and state lists: every agency serving that place. That means an office in that metro area or state, named on the agency's own site, or, for a US-based agency, a place on our national list. Each row says which. A city or state gets its own list once at least 3 agencies with an office there are confirmed. The national list holds the agencies our researchers recorded as selling GEO to clients nationwide or worldwide rather than to one region, plus every agency whose own site, in our research notes, says it serves clients nationwide or in all 50 states (read 12 October 2026). Agencies based outside the US, or not confirmed as US-based, stay on the national list only. Industry lists: a page for that industry on the agency's own site.
- Not a software tool, a directory or a marketplace listing.
- An agency that lists more than five office addresses on its own site, or addresses in more than five of our ranked metro areas, is counted only in the metro and state of its head office (see the office rule below).
- An office counts only when the agency's own site names that city. An address found only on a third-party profile does not place an agency on a city or state list.
The measure: AI-readiness of its own website
Six checks, 100 points. The files AI tools read first (llms.txt) and the software that proves the work (own tracking) carry the most. Every check can be repeated in a browser. AI Syndicate designed these checks, and its own site passes all six (see the disclosure).
| Check | Points | What passes | Agencies passing |
|---|---|---|---|
| llms.txt | 24 | A plain-text file at /llms.txt that tells AI tools what the business is. An HTML page, a redirect or a page our reader could not open does not count. | 131 of 231 |
| Own tracking software | 22 | The agency runs its own named software for tracking AI visibility, with a product page and a customer login. Reselling another company's tool does not count. | 5 of 231 |
| Names 3+ AI engines | 15 | A public page names at least three AI engines it works on, such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, Copilot or Claude. | 204 of 231 |
| robots.txt names AI crawlers | 15 | The robots.txt file names at least one AI crawler, such as GPTBot or ClaudeBot, and blocks none of them from the whole site. | 43 of 231 |
| Price an AI can read | 15 | A real price for the agency's own work sits inside /llms.txt or /agents.md, not only on a web page. | 27 of 231 |
| agents.md | 9 | A plain-text file at /agents.md that tells AI agents who the business is and what they can do on the site. | 4 of 231 |
A check counts only if a computer can read it. If our reader could not open a file — because it is missing or because bot protection stopped it — that check does not pass, since an AI crawler would be stopped too. Pages list only the checks an agency passed.
The tie-breaks
1. Clutch reviews
The number of client reviews on the agency's Clutch profile on 12 October 2026. Clutch checks that reviewers are real clients. No Clutch profile found counts as 0 reviews, and the table says "no profile found". If a profile exists but did not load for us, it also counts as 0 and the table says "not read". More ranks higher.
2. Years in business
The founding year stated on the agency's own site ("in business since 2012" counts as 2012). If its site gives none, the year on a public business profile such as Clutch, LinkedIn, Crunchbase or CB Insights. Where sources disagree, the agency's own site wins. Earlier ranks higher; no year found ranks after every agency with one.
Agencies equal on all three share a rank. Every list is ranked on its own.
Office rule
An agency that lists more than five office addresses on its own site, or addresses in more than five of our ranked metro areas, is counted only in the metro and state of its head office. Addresses in that many cities are often shared or virtual offices.
What we leave out
An agency is held for the next edition when our reader could not finish reading it for reasons on our side (for example, our own rate limit), or when its site contains text asking AI tools to take actions.
AI Syndicate in the rankings
AI Syndicate publishes this guide and is ranked in it, on the same checks as every agency. Its own site passes all six: 100 of 100 (measured 12 October 2026). The next-highest score in the guide is 91 (Anderson Collaborative). That is why it ranks first wherever it is listed. Its own site says it serves businesses in all 50 states (read 12 October 2026), so it is on the national list and therefore on every published city and state list; it is also on the 6 industry lists its own site has a page for; it is not on the other 6. It was founded in 2026 and has no Clutch reviews yet. Every page carries this disclosure at the bottom, and AI Syndicate's row is labelled.
What we do not measure
- Results for clients. None of the measures looks at what an agency achieved for anyone. Ask for a named client with a before and after.
- Price level. Agencies price by scope; we only check whether a price is readable by AI tools.
- Quality of work. Reviews are the closest public signal.
